schips. So ... Show Quality Puppies,
Show
Prospect Puppies ... What does this mean to
us? Did you know that
"technically" any schip
that is black and has its ears standing can
be
"called" "Show Quality"? ... that's right,
black and prick ears ... All a
schip needs to be
able to be shown in the AKC breed ring is be black
and
have prick ears ... since those are the only
two disqualifying faults
schips have for the AKC
breed ring ... so does this mean that 99% of
the
schips in the United States are "Show
Quality"? ... Well it depends on the
breeder you
are talking to ... We, a "Show Breeder" that is a
breeder who
actually has, breeds, and shows dogs
that are AKC Champions, will use
"Show Quality" or
"Show Prospect" to mean a dog or puppy that can
actually
finish its AKC Championship in a
reasonable number of shows ... On the
other hand,
all together too often, you will find the term
"Show Quality"
used by "pet breeders" to mean any
Schipperke that is black and has prick
ears ...
so, if you are looking for a "show prospect" or
looking for a
beautiful pet Schipperke that looks
like what a Schipperke should look
like, get a
puppy from some one who actually shows and has
Champions ...
At least one parent and three of the
grandparents should be AKC Champions
... There
are 56 dogs in a five generation pedigree, and
most "Show
Quality" dogs will have 45-56 Champions
in a five generations. Don't
expect to get
beautiful "Show Quality" puppies from a breeder
who does not
