Have guard dog capabilities. They are very protective of property and family.
The Mountain Cur is easy to groom. Comb or bush occasionally to remove dead, loose hair. Bathe only when necessary as bathing can dry out the skin. Keep ear cannel clean and free of excess hair.
Ease of training varies depending on the dog. Some lines are bred with an emphasis on treeing capabilities while others are bred for the baying ability.
The Mountain Cur is not acceptable for apartment life. They are a very active, working dog and they require a lot of daily exercise. When they are not hunting, they need to be taken on long brisk walks or jogs and should have a large yard where they can run. They love outdoor activities.
