Size: 48 - 58 cm (18.75 - 22.75 inches). Weight is around 40 lbs.
Coat: There are two varieties. Both have very hard coats. The horsecoat variety's coat is short and bristly. The brushcoat variety has longer hair. The brushcoat is considered inferior to the horsecoat variety.
Character: This dog is brave, loyal, dominant and not always the most obedient.
Temperament: The Shar-Pei bonds quickly with its family, but is not unfriendly toward strangers. It is fine with children and gets along with other household pets, provided socialization has taken place at a young age. It sometimes fights with other dogs.
Care: The characteristic folds of skin that cover its entire body must be checked and cleaned regularly. The coat must be groomed with a soft brush.
Training: Training must be very firm and consistent.
Activity: Shar-Peis need a considerable amount of outdoor exercise.
